I have always loved living in New York – whether in the city, upstate, or Westchester. After nearly three decades, I should be accustomed to its uncommon beauty. But every year, especially in spring, I find myself amazed by the changing of the seasons against the panorama of the very special place I call home. As an avid gardener, I have been equally surprised to discover the number of world-class gardens, public and private, located here in the metro New York area.
And so we’ve dedicated the inaugural issue of The New York Garden to celebrating several sites in this region that we think are extraordinary. This issue brings you the exceptional horticulture of Wave Hill in Riverdale, Kykuit in Sleepy Hollow, and The Conservatory Garden in Central Park. We hope these profiles will encourage you to visit and explore in person. Grab your camera and bring a notebook! Whether a novice, veteran, or even an armchair gardener, you are sure to see something unexpected and come away with new inspiration for your own garden, be it large or small.
Perhaps you know of a special place we can include in our next issue. Write to us and share your thoughts. We look forward to hearing from you.
